Joseph E. "Jimmie" Snee, Sr. of Bayou Goula, Iberville Parish, Louisiana, married Eloise Cannon, a native Texan. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1916 and served as a lieutenant in the United States Army, 156th and 55th infantries, during World War I. He was a bandmaster for the 55th Infantry while stationed in Europe. Snee was employed by Standard Oil Company and its successors (e.g., Exxon) and was director of the Stanocola Refinery Band.
